When I was in the Philippines I used to hang out with my friends during weekends or days off. I was very spontaneous by then, I couldn’t even remember that I stayed home that much. Now, I realised that everything has changed. I don’t know maybe because it is part of growing old, or just being away from my family and friends, or being far from metropolitan area? I am becoming more of an introvert type of person now who tend to feel drained after socialising in school and regain my energy by spending time alone.
With that being said, I would tell you the usual things I do on weekends when I started living here in Dankhuntot, Nakhon Ratchasima Province of Thailand. We all know that some ofw’s try to increase income by working even on their days off to be able to earn extra money to send back to their families in the Philippines. I’m just so lucky that I didn’t have to do that; So, my situation is not as bad as other overseas Filipino workers. Thus, I’m doing my own ways to make my weekends more productive.
6:45 AM
This is now my weekend normal wake up time. It’s also time to take my food supplement before doing anything.
You know, as we age, we normally encounter problems with our body such as signs of aging in the skin, hair, nails, muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. I’m taking this supplement to maintain my strength and flexibility throughout the body. If you want to know more about this product click here — Neocell.
6:45 AM – 8:00 AM
Time to get updated to social media whilst drinking coffee. I’m just so glad that even I am miles away from my loved one’s, it seems like I am still connected with them everyday due to social media.
8:00 AM – 11:59AM
It’s time to get my ass up and start the general cleaning. Cleaning on the weekend totally counts as exercising. I normally started with bringing all bedding, including sheets, pillow cases, mattress pad and even pillows to a laundry shop.
While my laundry is on process, I am soaking my white shirts with whitening bleach and powdered soap. Basically, I used my hands now when washing my clothes because I just don’t like my clothes to shrink and sometimes it can cause colors to bleed. (like what happened on that picture below!!! LOL)
Next would be cleaning up my room and the toilet as well. As you can see, I’m wiping up the window because of the dust being accumulated during weekdays, doing a good dusting on the ceiling, scrubbing the toilet and wiping down all surfaces.
Before heading back to Laundry shop. I am preparing for my brunch. Well, brunch is actually a combination of breakfast and lunch eaten usually during the late morning to early afternoon.
These are the usual things I do on a weekend basis here in Dankhuntot District, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand Province.
12:00 NN until Sunday evening
There you have it!!! I’m done with the house chores. Now, it’s time for me to work with my new blogs and midterm test for my students. I get used to be being alone, away from friends, from family and the city. However, I always make sure to be more productive during my weekends so I don’t get bored and home sick easily. I’m just really thankful to social media for being connected to my friends around the world.
Finally, we OFW, whether you end up working on weekends or enjoying more solo activities, it still depends on your mindset. Always remember whatΒ Derocha says; “The goal is to find your personal balance, recharge, and take care of your own needs.” Β I know that working abroad can be weary and with restricted time to relax and rest. But please find ways to spend time with yourself.
Thank you.
